Porcupine Tree – Anesthesize

A good impression of myself
Not much to conceal
I’m saying nothing
But I’m saying nothing revealed

I simply am not here
No way I should appear happy
Stop whining please

Because of who we are
We react in mock surprise
The curse off, there must be more
So don’t breathe here
Don’t leave your bags

I simply am not here
No way I should appear happy
Stop whining please

The dust in my soul
Makes me feel awake in my legs
My head in the clouds
And I’m zoning out

I’m watching TV
But I find it hard to stay conscious
I’m totally bored
But I can’t switch off

Only apathy from the pills in me
Its all in me, all in you
Electricity from the pills in me
Its all in me, all in you
Only eMpTV, cod philosophy

We’re lost in the mall
Shuffling through the stores like zombies
What is the point
What can money buy

My hand’s on a gun
And I find the range, God, tempt me
What did you say
Think I’m passing out

Only apathy from the pills in me
Its all in me, all in you
Electricity from the pills in me
Its all in me, all in you
Only eMpTV, cod philosophy

All the apathy from the pills in me
Its all in me, all in you
Electricity from the pills in me
Its all in me, all in you

Water so warm that day (water so warm that day)
I counted out the waves (I counted out the waves)
As they broke into

The water so warm that day
I was counting out the waves
And I followed their short life
As they broke on the shoreline
I could see you
But I couldn’t hear you

You were holding your hat in the breeze
Turning away from me in this moment
You were stolen as black across the sun

Water so warm that day (water so warm that day)
I counted out the waves (I counted out the waves)
As they broke into shore (as they broke into shore)

The Beatles – A Day in the Life

Useat Beatlesin biisit ovat monimerkityksellisiä ja niissä voi nähdä viittauksia huumeisiin niin halutessaan. A Day in the Life joka tapauksessa hyllytettiin BBC:n toimesta ja sitä ei soitettu kanavalla, koska sen katsottiin yllyttävän huumeiden käyttöön. Paul McCartney kertoi myös Barry Milesin kirjoittamassa omaelämäkerrassaan biisistä seuraavasti: ”The ’blew his mind’ was purely a drugs reference, nothing to do with a car crash.”

Procol Harum – Robert’s Box

Tohtori Robertista on lauleltua useampaankiin otteeseen 60-luvulla. Kuuluisin biisi lienee The Beatlesin ”Doctor Robert”. Kyseessä on lontoolainen lääkäri, jolta monet muusikot ostivat 60-luvulla ”rohtoja”.

”Doctor where’s your remedy?
I’ve got enough to pay the fee
Can’t you see I’m awful sick?
I’ll pay you well to do the trick

Doctor where’s your magic box
There’s no one here to count the cost
Name your price and make the sale
There’s no-one here to tell the tale

Doctor please don’t lock your door
I’ve never troubled you before
Just a pinch to ease the pain
I’ll never trouble you again”

Porcupine Tree – Fear Of a Blank Planet

Kappale kertoo kertoo nuoresta joka kärsii kaksisuuntaisesta mielialahäiriöstä. Hänen mielestään mikään ei enää tunnu miltään, kaikki on turhaa, eikä mihinkään voi enää keskittyä. Pelit, pornografia ja seksi tuntuu hänelle merkityksettömältä ja tylsältä Ainoa pakokeino on nimeämättömät reseptilääkkeet. Oletettavasti masennus -eli SSRI lääkkeitä.

Porcupine Tree – Linton Samuel Dawson

Biisi on hyvin varhaista Porcupine Treen tuotantoa. Taitaa olla bändin ensimmäiseltä EP:ltä. Biisin nimen etukirjaimista muodostuu LSD ja kyllähän tämä trippailevasta kaverista kertookin.

”Linton Samuel Dawson
Lives in inner space
He hangs around with a circus troupe
Outside the human race

Linton Samuel Dawson
Has just reached 25
Artists travel from outside time
Just to see his rainbow jive

He’s bored, He’s bored.

Linton Samuel Dawson
Yields his knowledge in a phial
A vivid play on an emerald day
I s experienced in his smile

Linton Samuel Dawson
Visits many open minds
He aids escape to tranquility
From the boredom of mankind

Boredom. From the boredom.
From the boredom of mankind.”
